A symbolic moment, filled with emotion. The presence of Awa Kanouté, CICODEV’s focal point in Thiès, who was summoned to God on April 6, 2021, was heavily felt this weekend at the enrollment ceremony for the tailors’ association of the department of Thiès at the Dabakh Health Mutual. She was the only one missing at this meeting dedicated to enrolling one thousand members of the association to the health mutual. Awa Kanouté made every effort to achieve this result, which, unfortunately, she did not live to witness. “Leaning on her walker with courage and dignity, she attended all the outreach sessions to promote enrollment in our mutual health organization,” said Coumba Bâ with teary eyes. Awa Kanouté’s friend and president of the Dabakh Health Mutual, Coumba Bâ continued that the mutual will always be grateful to her “ingenuity, a committed pioneer who fought until her last breath”.
The health mutual’s main hall baptized and named Awa Kanouté
The ceremony started with a recital from the Koran for the peaceful send-off of the dearly departed. Activities then continued. The Dabakh health mutual’s main hall, located in the infamous health district, was named after Awa Kanouté to honor her memory. A magnificent art painting was also given to her family who were invited to the ceremony. The Executive Director of CICODEV, Amadou Kanouté, was moved and presented his condolences to the members of the mutual before saluting the memory of one of the organization’s most devoted focal points. He also promised to continue collaborating with the Dabakh health mutual to continue promoting endogenous health financing mechanisms.
The ceremony ended with the signing of the agreement between the mutual and the Tailors Association of the Department of Thies. The Final enrolment of a focal point forever embraced in triumph by her work. Farewell, Awa!
