Dakar, Dec. 11 (APS) – The executive director of the Pan African Institute for Citizenship, Consumers and Development (CICODEV), Amadou Kanouté, reiterated a proposal by several civil society organizations, the ”global financing mechanism”, as a guarantee of global health security.
One model that comes to mind and that we are testing in our country is the global funding mechanism in support of every woman, every child,” said Kanouté.
He recalled this idea common to several civil society organizations, on the occasion of the fourth Galien forum, Friday, in Dakar.
This mechanism, also known as the Global Financing Facility (GFF), can “contribute to ending preventable maternal and infant deaths,” said the CICODEV president.
The GFF has the advantage of being able to “improve the quality of life and health of women, children and adolescents,” Kanouté said.
According to him, the “global financing mechanism” is an answer to the question of how to promote multisectoral collaboration and community engagement that can ensure global health security.
The GFF is effective in that “communities are the targets and ‘potential’ actors of public policies, if given the opportunity,” he said.
The “ownership” of public policies by the communities will be “the first guarantee of success” of the State in terms of health, added the Executive Director of CICODEV.
Health security must be perceived, according to Mr. Kanouté, “as a real concern, shared and recognized as such by all stakeholders: households, communities, the State, and local authorities.
The GFF is a multi-stakeholder partnership in support of the United Nations Global Strategy for Women’s, Children’s and Youth Health and the Sustainable Development Goals,” he said.
