CICODEV Africa attended the 4th edition of the ‘Food and Soil Festival Senegal’ today in Dakar …
The general objective of the festival is to contribute to the development of an international citizenship committed to the promotion of a fairer and more sustainable agri-food system through sharing and debating initiatives that family farmers have taken to improve food security and reduce poverty in rural Senegal.
More specifically, the festival seeks to :
– Inform and sensitize citizens and decision makers on the challenges of healthy and sustainable agricultural practices;
– Valorize the contribution of family farms to meet the food challenges and reduce poverty;
-Promote the consumption of local agricultural products by citizens.
The second day of the festival (which is also World Milk Day) began with visits to schools and the distribution of locally produced milk to students. A documentary film on food inequality was also projected, followed by a speech by the Minister of Agriculture and Animals. The day continued at FIARA, with discussions and speeches by the Minister and his committee. Lunch was followed by the showcasing of products from local producers. The activities will continue until the closing ceremony on June 10.
