Food and Soil Festival in Kaolack

The Food and Soil festival in Kaolack on Monday May 18 and Tuesday, May 19, respectively in the elementary schools of Bill Bambara in the commune of Ndiaffate and the nursery school of SOS in the commune of Kaolack.

These schools welcomed CICODEV and its partners to promote local consumption as part of the Food and Soil Festival.

The following authorities were present: DGPS, IA, the representative of the town hall, the parents of the students, the students, the community, the representative of the departmental council and the Collective of the Headmasters of the schools and the Communal President of the Associations of parents of students.

The students performed in the local language which led to a presentation on the promotion of local products.

The day ended with local products sampling: thieré, thiagry, mourake, mewou peul, mango juice, white bissap juice, tamarind juice, guerte thiafff, douguoub fritter, flour fritter….

An exhibition of local products: corn, peanuts, tomatoes, beans, millet, cow’s milk, okra, mangoes followed by a visit to the vegetable garden in the Bill Bambara school where salads, onions, sweet potatoes, watermelon, corn, peanuts are grown along with the construction of a nursery.

CICODEV through its Focal Point Mrs. Fatou Kiné Diassé has advocated for sustainable school canteens and the promotion of local consumption in the communities.
