Dakar, March 4 (APS) – CICODEV Africa, a consumer organization, has signed an agreement with the official body in charge of social protection in Senegal for “an effective social protection policy in Senegal”, APS learnt Thursday from the two structures.
According to a statement received from the consumer organization, the agreement signed the same day in Diamniadio, about thirty kilometers east of Dakar, reflects “the willingness of both institutions to ensure the pooling of their resources and expertise, for a more efficient cooperation and an effective social protection policy in Senegal.
CICODEV Africa, the Pan African Institute for Citizenship, Consumers and Development, and the General Delegation for Social Protection and National Solidarity (DGPSN), want to achieve “an effective social protection policy in Senegal”, by implementing the signed agreement.
“The partnership between the DGPSN and CICODEV Africa will be an important part of the implementation of our anti-poverty policy (…) Our combined efforts will enable us to achieve convincing results to benefit the populations we aim to help,” explained the head of the DGPSN, Aminata Sow, in a press release.
This “partnership illustrates (…) the willingness of both institutions to ensure that their resources and expertise are combined,” according to the statement.
The agreement was signed “at a time when the design and implementation of the national social protection strategy has demonstrated the importance of involving civil society organizations and local authorities in the development of the public social protection policy”.
“The signing of this agreement reflects our common desire to move towards a multi-actor approach. Our role is to ensure that the concerned actors look in the same direction, under the leadership of the DGPSN, so that together we can anchor and sustain social protection in our country,” explained the Executive Director of CICODEV Africa, Amadou Kanouté.
“This partnership agreement between CICODEV Africa and the DGPSN intends to foster a synergy of actions that will have to carry an effective advocacy with the main stakeholders of social protection and create the conditions for a strong consensus for increased and sustainable investment on the protection of poor or vulnerable populations,” says the statement.
According to the press release, the two partners will contribute to the implementation of the Project to strengthen civil society for an effective social protection policy in Senegal (REPROSOC).
REPROSOC is implemented by CICODEV Afriqca, Grdr-Migration-Citizenship and Development, the Laboratory for the Analysis of Economic and Social Transformations, and the Departmental Council of Rufisque (west).
According to its promoters, this project aims to “strengthen civil society’s involvement in improving the effectiveness and impact of social protection policies in Senegal.
This is a “national scale” project implemented over a period of thirty-six months (2020-2022), in the departments of Ranérou, Matam (north), Fatick (center), Sédhiou (south) and Rufisque.
“The beneficiaries are populations in vulnerable situations in Senegal,” says the same source.
REPROSOC is dedicated to universal health coverage, food vulnerabilities in schools, and the Senegalese government’s family security grant. It is supported by the European Union.
