CICODEV Africa has participated in the establishment in Rufisque (west), with other non-governmental organizations, of a central kitchen that feeds seven schools in this department, learned Wednesday from its leaders.
We are involved in a project supported by the implementation of the territorial food plan of Rufisque where we have established a central kitchen that feeds nearly seven schools in the department,” said Khady Thiané Ndoye, in charge of the program “Access to healthy and nutritious food” of the organization.
She was speaking at a workshop to identify stakeholders in food governance in the commune of Koungheul and to validate the participatory capacity building program in food and nutrition.
The departmental council of Rufisque and the French organization GRDR (Migration, Citizenship and Development) took part in the implementation of school canteens.
Khady Thiané Ndoye recalled that CICODEV Africa, created in 2007, “is a consumer and advocacy organization that works for access to basic social services with a particular focus on the most vulnerable people.
We are also working on cross-cutting programs such as access to information, gender and social protection issues,” she added.
According to her, the NGO works on five themes: access to health, healthy food, sustainable energy, telecommunications, water, hygiene and sanitation.
Khady Thiané Ndoye recalled that, regarding the project implemented by the FAO in Koungheul and Bambilor, in the framework of food governance of local communities, CICODEV Africa intervenes in the school feeding program, by setting up agroecological gardens in schools.
Within the framework of this project, the NGO will also intervene in the capacity building of educational communities, food and nutrition, and sustainable agricultural practices
