CICODEV offers health coverage to five members of the baby’s family.
By agreeing to enroll five family members of the Baby of the Year in a health mutual health company to ensure universal health coverage, CICODEV is in line with its policy of promoting endogenous health financing mechanisms.
The first edition of the Baby of the Year celebration by the Initiative, Reflection and Support Unit (CIRA) was held on December 31, 2020 at the Mame Abdou Sy Dabakh health center of the Parcelles assainies community, U 17: “This is a major innovation!” said the Executive Director of the Pan-African Institute for Citizenship, Consumers and Development (CICODEV Africa). CICODEV, in partnership with CIRA, has taken charge of enrolling five family members of the Baby of the Year, including the mother and father, in a mutual health insurance scheme. This will be the case for the next five years. The Universal Health Coverage is strengthened, for the good of all. CICODEV was represented at the ceremony by its Executive Director, Mr. Amadou Kanouté, accompanied by the Dakar-Suburbs Focal Point, Mrs. Yacine Fall.
“I welcome this initiative and congratulate the President of the (CIRA). The Baby of the Year celebration has been going on for a long time in Senegal and formerly it was just gifts for the baby and his mother but this year, for a first edition, you have changed that,” said Mr. Kanouté, standing in front of an audience composed of religious and customary leaders, as well as politicians and development actors. He continued: “In all development policies, the UHC must be put in the front line and CIRA has understood this. We cannot talk about development policy without covering health. CICODEV responded because it could not turn a deaf ear to this call. Our organization will continue to work with CIRA.” He believes that CIRA’s example should inspire local authorities and all the organizers for successful health coverage in Senegal.
Following him, the President of CIRA, Mrs. Touty Mbaye, very moved, said that this special event will be continued. Mrs. Maimouna Cissokho, Director of the National Agency for Early Childhood and the Toddler’s box (Case des Tout-petits), was the godmother of the event.
