ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE FOR THE FIGHTERS

Mobilize the actors of the Senegalese arena to initiate a dynamic of adhesion of organized groups. This is the objective set by the Universal Health Coverage (CMU) and the National Association of Wrestlers of Senegal (ANLS) for easy access to health care.

Difficulties in accessing health care will soon be a thing of the past for Senegalese wrestlers. Indeed, aware of the importance and the role of organized groups in the fight against the impoverishment of communities, the Regional Union of Mutual Health Insurance (URMS) and the National Association of Wrestlers of Senegal (ANLS) signed, this Monday, an agreement to enroll the actors of the wrestling, through the CICODEV.

According to the Minister of Sports, who chaired this meeting, he is the best person to talk about the difficulties encountered by the actors of wrestling to get treatment. On several occasions, says Matar Ba, his ministry has had to accompany patients in this sector and in the greatest discretion. This convention comes at the right time. It is always good to have this partnership that is a win-win situation. I call on all wrestlers to unite and make this convention theirs. It is beneficial from all points of view”, urged the boss of Senegalese sports.

The minister has pledged to increase his support for this project. When you return from the World Cup, we will subsidize you to the tune of 20 million CFA francs, so that you can enroll more people. This is just the beginning. We intend to accompany you in this process. You will have our full support.

The president of the Regional Union of Mutual Health Insurance (URMS) confided that they are often asked for support by the actors of this sector. This is why they thought of making such a convention. In the opinion of Moustapha Mbengue, to succeed in such a partnership, there must be a strong adhesion from all actors, as the middle of the popular championship commonly called Navétane, where 9,000 people are already enrolled by the National Agency for Universal Health Coverage. He also asked the former wrestlers to join this project, because they are the ones who are most in need. It is in this sense that the president of the National Association of Wrestlers of Senegal (ANLS) invited his peers to a synergy of efforts.

According to Gris Bordeaux, there are more than 8,000 licensed wrestlers, not counting the other actors who gravitate around. That’s why he invited them to buy the membership card. Because, he said, only those who have this card will benefit from this convention. The leader of the Fass stable insisted on the relevance of this partnership, recounting the misfortunes of wrestlers who have stopped their career because of a trivial injury, because they do not have the means to treat themselves.

”Wrestlers face difficulties in accessing health care”

For his part, the Executive Director of CICODEV/Africa, who welcomed the signing of the agreement with the Senegalese arena, said that beyond the wrestlers, the organized groups will have to massively adhere to mutual health insurance to increase the coverage rate, strengthen health financing and improve the quality of services. The observation that led to this signing is that many active wrestlers stop their career prematurely or encounter difficulties in getting treatment when they retire, and all this because of lack of health care. The wrestlers are faced with difficulties in accessing care, while they are constantly exposed to risks related to the profession (fractures, cardiovascular risks, sudden death …) or disease,” said Amadou Kanouté.

The statistics of coverage from 20% in 2012 to 49.64% in 2019, reflect a real performance in terms of coverage of the population against the risk of disease, said Kanouté. To consolidate this achievement, he said that a policy that seeks to facilitate access to health and care to the rest of the population, nearly 51% through the Universal Health Coverage (CMU), is a good public policy to perpetuate.
