About fifty actors of the food sector of the department of Kougheul, in the region of Kaffrine (center), participate in a training workshop on food governance territories at the initiative of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), noted the APS.
The meeting opened on Wednesday and will continue for four days in partnership with the NGOs Cicodev and Enda Ecopop
The project aims to support sustainable food production in Koungheul. It will contribute to the improvement of food security, nutrition and the strengthening of the resilience of vulnerable populations”, explained to journalists the expert in food system for the FAO, Coumbaly Diao at the opening.
At the same time, the workshop pursues the objective of identifying the stakeholders of food governance in the commune of Koungheul and validating the participatory capacity building program on food and nutrition.
Farmers, producers, women processors, consumers and other actors take part in the event opened in the presence of the deputy prefect of Kougheul, Saliou Ndiaye.
With the Directorate for the Promotion of Territorial Development (DPDT), through the Ministry of Territorial Communities, the various components of food systems have been analyzed in Koungheul,” said Ms. Diao.
She considered that this diagnosis consisted in understanding; in the department of Koungheul; what is produced, consumed, and sold on the market and even what is exported.
This project, which promotes healthy and sustainable food, is initiated by the FAO. The NGOs Cicodev and Enda Ecopop are in charge of its implementation under the direction of the Ministry of Local Government.
In Senegal, it operates in the communes of Bambilor (Dakar) and Koungheul (Kaffrine).
According to Coumbaly Diao, “this project has an overall budget of 1 million 500 thousand dollars spread over three countries: Senegal, Rwanda and Ecuador. For Senegal, she detailed, “the budget amounts to 36,6000 dollars.
Cicodev will intervene in the framework of this project on the aspects of school feeding program by setting up agro ecological garden in schools but especially on the aspect of capacity building on educational communities for food and nutrition and all issues related to sustainable agricultural practices,” explained Khady Thiané Ndoye, Cicodev’s program manager for access to healthy and nutritious food.
