16 villages in the department of Foundiougne (Fatick region) have decided to lift the financial barrier by following the example of Keur Momath Mbayang, the only village in Senegal to have a 100% health coverage rate thanks to people’s participation in collective fields to finance their health. This is what came out of the workshop on the orientation for collective farming organized by CICODEV in partnership with the UDAM of Foundiougne, on Monday, June 21, 2021, in Sokone. The workshop aimed to remove the financial barrier to access health care with the promotion of village membership in mutual health organizations to benefit from the UHC.
CICODEV, which encourages endogenous health financing mechanisms for massive enrollment in mutual health organizations, intends to further strengthen the rate of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). CICODEV, in collaboration with the UDAM of Foundiougne, organized a workshop on the orientation of collective farms. Regrouping 16 villages with the attendance of 11 village chiefs, the workshop focused on removing financial barriers to access health care with the promotion of village membership in mutual health organizations to benefit from the UHC. The management experience of the collective farm of Keur Momath Mbayang, the only village to have a 100% coverage rate thanks to village membership, was shared.
The villages that took part in the workshop committed themselves to replicating the Keur Momath Mbayang model so that UHC becomes a reality in their respective localities.
