Telecommunications play an important role in the socio-economic development of a country and have an impact on trade, job creation, national integration, the country linkages and cultural exchanges.
Telecommunications services are growing strongly around the world, and particularly in Senegal. In 2013, the mobile penetration rate is estimated at 93.6% (ARTP 2013).

But the sector is dominated by a few operators and anticompetitive practices are frequent, to the detriment of the economy and consumers.

CICODEV Africa works to inject more competition in the sector leading advocate for the introduction of portability in Senegal.  

Portability is a process that allows users to switch operators while retaining their mobile number; forcing operators to improve the quality of their services, to lower prices and to use technological innovation to customer loyalty and expand their market share.
