Sonatel and Ministry of Health and Social Action sign partnership to improve communication about health services in Senegal Featured

On 12 May 2014, Mme Awa Marie Coll Seck, Senegalese Minister of Health and Social Action, and M Alioune Ndiaye, CEO of Sonatel, signed a framework partnership agreement to improve ways of communicating information about health services in Senegal, particularly in terms of raising public awareness, preventing the risk of disease and managing emergencies.

Specifically, the objectives are:

to build capacity in both human and material resources, so as to improve coordination and ensure a free flow of information between stakeholders
to help as many people as possible to keep in touch with healthcare professionals for quality healthcare services
to prevent disease by promoting the use of tools for better information and improved well-being on a day-to-day basis

One of the main ways in which this partnership works is that Sonatel provides the Ministry of Health and Social Action with cost-free distribution of awareness and prevention messages to the public by text.

It has therefore been decided to send messages raising awareness and providing information about healthcare to people’s mobile phones, at the rate of two texts per month, according to a mutually agreed timetable. Appropriate awareness messages will be written in advance by the Ministry of Health and Social Action and given to Sonatel, who will then distribute them across their mobile network.
