Smile To The Future was invited by Africa Europe Faith and Justice Network (AEFJN) to attend their conference
“Bridging the gap between policy and practice: international soft law and large scale land acquisitions in Africa”.
Some representatives of Smile To The Future Brussels attended this conference at the European Union
Parliament which was hosted by Mrs Marie Arena, a Member of European Parliament.

During this conference, Amadou Kanouté of Cicodev, presented the current situation in Koudiadiène, Senegal
in relation to land grabbing. This was followed by Mrs Bridget Mugambe of the Alliance for Food Sovereignty
Africa, who displayed the impact and needless pressure of international policies for Food Security and
Nutrition on the access to land for local communities. Afterwards, Mr. Stéphane Parmentier of Oxfam,
presented the FAO Voluntary Guidelines for the Responsible Governance of Land Tenure and the challenges
of their implementation. The conference was concluded by a question and discussion section.
